-Licenses, Certifications:
- MUST HAVE: Certificate of completion of School Security Officer Training (SB1626 or SB390), meeting the requirements mandated by Education Code Section 38001.5;
- Preferred: Possess and maintain a current First Aid and CPR certification for adult and child;
- Pass pre-employment physical and drug test;
- A current and valid Tuberculosis (TB) clearance;
- Fingerprint clearance for school personnel;
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Under general supervision, the Campus Security supports the school administration in maintaining a safe, secure, and student-centered campus; protects students, staff, and property; actively and positively influences and supervises students on campus; provides monitoring and security, as appropriate, to maintain control of the campus and its parking areas; responds to alarms and calls for assistance; performs a variety of preliminary investigative and protective duties; prepares and maintain a variety of records and reports.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Patrols and monitors school facilities to include, but not limited to, grounds, roads, parking lots, buildings, restrooms, locker rooms, etc. for the purpose of providing visibility within the school setting to students and the general public, maintaining security, and deterring crime; E
- Secures buildings and other areas; E
- Opens and closes campus gates, lockers, and classrooms as needed;
- Assists teachers with monitoring students and managing disruptive behaviors in the classroom or when students are not under the direct guidance of a teacher; E
- Supervises students during non-instructional periods; E
- Monitors school functions to include but not limited to sporting events, dances, and on and off-campus activities, etc. to ensure the safety of students, staff, visitors, and property; E
- Maintains a safe and orderly campus by enforcing school rules and procedures for appropriate conduct from students, staff, and the general public on school grounds; E
- Assists with cleaning, picking up trash, and removing hazards while in assigned areas;
- Informs students, staff, and the general public, as appropriate, for ensuring their understanding of laws, enforcement procedures, and consequences of their actions; E
- Identifies and manages the presence of unauthorized individuals on campus; E
- Responds to and intervenes in emergency or potentially critical situations (e.g. alarm calls, bomb threats, fights, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the safety of students, staff, visitors, and property to include deescalating individuals, or physically restraining students if necessary; E
- Reports individuals suspected of engaging in illegal activities to administration and/or law enforcement personnel; E
- Investigates and prepares clear and concise reports relative to incidents, both on and off campus, within the jurisdiction of the district, as directed by administration, of vandalism, inappropriate student conduct, and other violations of school and District policies and procedures; E
- Interacts with other agencies (e.g. law enforcement, community professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating and/or receiving information regarding situations that may affect safety within the school environment; E
- Develops appropriate, positive, and collaborative relationships with students, parents, staff, and administration; E
- Uses good judgment in the application of District and school policies;
- Exercises mature judgment, reporting objectively, and avoiding emotional or defensive involvement;
- Participates in regular school site safety inspections;
- Wears District-issued uniform on a daily basis;
- May be exposed to blood borne pathogens in the course of duty;
- Maintains confidentiality; E
- Participates in District in-service training and professional development activities as required;
- Leads and provides support to campus aides; E
- May function as a security lead and provide support to campus aides while performing security duties;
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
-Knowledge and skills of:
- The State of California School Security Officer Training course mandated by Education Code Section 38001.5;
- Legal mandates, traffic laws and regulations, basic school law, policies, rules, and regulations concerning campus control, security, and appropriate student behavior;
- Basic objectives, goals, policies, and procedures of a school district and relationships to state law and other school organizations;
- District policies, procedures, and terminology;
- General purposes and goals of public education;
- District discipline plan, rules, regulations, goals, and objectives for achieving positive student relations;
- Safe campus supervision methods and procedures;
- Crowd control procedures and the detection, identification, and prevention of dangerous drugs, alcohol, vaping, improper substances, violence, and gang activity;
- Proper procedures for handling harassment issues;
- Motivation of students through positive and effective communication;
- Group dynamics and behavior modification strategies and techniques;
- First aid and CPR for the purpose of providing emergency care;
- Child abuse identification and reporting procedures;
- School community and the community socioeconomic status and attitudes;
- Safe campus supervision methods and procedures;
- General concepts of child development and behavior;
- Techniques used in supporting appropriate student behavior;
- Safety rules and regulations regarding physical activity;
- Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy;
- Follow written and oral directions in English;
- Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation, and basic arithmetic;
- Record-keeping techniques (as needed);
- Standard office equipment and computer applications including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.
