STEP 1STEP 2STEP 3STEP 4STEP 5STEP 6STEP 7STEP 8STEP 9 26$30.04$31.24$32.49$33.79$35.15$36.55$38.01$39.53$41.11 GENERAL DESCRIPTION:Under general supervision, the Campus Safety Officer supports the school administration in maintaining a safe, secure, and student-centered campus; oversees campus security activities; protects students, staff, and property; actively and positively influences and supervises students on campus; provides monitoring and security, as appropriate, to maintain control of the campus and its parking areas; responds to alarms and calls for assistance; performs a variety of investigative and protective duties; prepares and maintains a variety of records and reports. ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Patrols and monitors school facilities to include, but not limited to, grounds, roads, parking lots, buildings, restrooms, locker rooms, etc. for the purpose of providing visibility within the school setting to students and the general public, maintaining security, and deterring crime; E Secures buildings and other areas requiring security; E Maintains a safe and orderly campus by enforcing school rules and procedures for appropriate conduct from students, staff, and the general public on school grounds; E May operate a variety of different vehicles and/or be assigned to bicycle patrol in the performance of assigned duties; E Assists with cleaning, picking up trash, and removing hazards while in assigned areas; Operates a two-way radio, responds to radio summons, and reports incidents; E Informs students, staff, and the general public, as appropriate, for ensuring their understanding of laws, enforcement procedures, and consequences of their actions; E Responds to and intervenes in emergency or potentially critical situations (e.g. alarm calls, bomb threats, altercations, medical emergencies, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring safety of students, staff, visitors, and property to include de-escalating individuals, or physically restraining students if necessary; E Identifies and manages the presence of unauthorized individuals on campus; E Reports individuals suspected of engaging in illegal activities to administration and/or law enforcement personnel; E Identifies gang members, graffiti, symbols, and gang slogans necessary to identify gang activity in and around campus; Assists District staff and other agencies in investigating, apprehending, and detaining individual(s) in violation of laws, rules, and/or policies; E Intervenes in potential conflicts and physically restrains individuals involved in crimes, altercations, or other acts of violence; E Investigates and prepares clear and concise reports relative to incidents, both on and off campus, within the jurisdiction of the district, as directed by administration, of vandalism, inappropriate student conduct, and other violations of school and District policies and procedures; E Communicates information in a timely manner to site-level administrators; Meets with the Director of Risk and Safety and school personnel to discuss security matters; Interacts with other agencies (e.g. law enforcement, community professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating and/or receiving information regarding situations that may affect safety within the school environment; E Assists teachers with monitoring students and managing disruptive behaviors in the classroom or when students are not under the direct guidance of a teacher; E Supervises students during non-instructional periods; E Monitors school functions to include but not limited to sporting events, dances, on and off-campus activities, etc. to ensure the safety of students, staff, visitors, and property; E Writes referrals for offenses committed by students; E Escorts students to the appropriate administrator, main office, health office, or counselor’s office; E Develops appropriate, positive, and collaborative relationships with students, parents, staff, and administration; E Uses good judgment in the application of District and school policies; Exercises mature judgment, reporting objectively, and avoiding emotional or defensive involvement; Participates in regular school site safety inspections; Wears District-issued uniform on a daily basis; May be exposed to bloodborne pathogens in the course of duty; Maintains confidentiality; E Participates in District in-service training and professional development activities as required; Leads and provides support to campus aides; E High tolerance for ongoing stressful situations; E Performs job assignment safely for the purpose of protecting people and property; E Performs other related duties as assigned. E = Essential function JOB REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Graduation from high school or equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade; Any combination of training and education that could likely provide the desired knowledge. Experience:One or more successful years of paid experience performing security duties in the public or private sector, preferably in an educational setting; One or more successful years of experience working with adolescent-age children performing supervision and crowd control services is preferable. Licenses, Certifications, and Testing:Certificate of completion of School Security Officer Training, meeting the requirements mandated by Education Code Section 38001.5; Must complete an approved PC 832 Peace Officer Standards and Training Course (POST) and have a valid POST Level II Module certificate or completion of a basic law enforcement academy certificate; Possess and maintain a current First Aid and CPR certification for adult and child; Pass pre-employment physical and drug test; A current and valid Tuberculosis (TB) clearance; Fingerprint clearance for school personnel; Must possess a valid California Driver's License during the course of employment and be insurable by the District’s liability insurance carrier; *Employees in this classification are responsible for renewing the documents listed to ensure their validity throughout employment in this classification. Knowledge and skills of:The State of California School Security Officer Training course mandated by Education Code Section 38001.5; Education Code and Penal Code; Legal mandates, traffic laws and regulations, policies, rules, and regulations concerning campus control, security, and appropriate student behavior; Basic objectives, goals, policies, and procedures of a school district and relationships to state law and other school organizations; District policies, procedures, and terminology; General purposes and goals of public education; District discipline plan, rules, regulations, goals, and objectives for achieving positive student relations; Safe campus supervision methods and procedures; Adolescent and adult behaviors; Crowd control procedures and the detection, identification, and prevention of dangerous drugs, alcohol, vaping, improper substances, violence, and gang activity; Proper procedures for handling harassment issues; Motivation of students through positive and effective communication; Group dynamics, and behavior modification strategies and techniques; First aid and CPR for the purpose of providing emergency care; Child abuse identification and reporting procedures; School community and the community socioeconomic status and attitudes; General concepts of child development and behavior; Techniques used in supporting appropriate student behavior; Safety rules and regulations regarding physical activity; Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy; Follow written and oral directions in English; Correct English usage, spelling, grammar and punctuation, basic arithmetic, letter and report writing; Record-keeping techniques(as needed); Standard office equipment and computer applications including Microsoft Office and Google Drive environment; Modern office methods, procedures, and equipment, including record-keeping principles, methods and procedures, filing systems, letter and report writing.
